Line 1:
The chancellor of Salovia was the political leader of Salovia and the joint head of the government. The office holder, paired with the Grand Minister, was responsible for setting the political policy of the nation, and approved the election of members in the Grand Executive Council. Since the office was established in 1812 and its dissolution in 1985, there were a total of 16 Chancellors and one acting Chancellor, that being Lara Tarasovna. There are three surviving individuals who served as Chancellor, those being Remis Gregorisi, Victor Victrovavich, and Lara Tarasovna. The most recent to pass away was Kurasin Sokolo, on February 13th, 2006. The chancellery of Yeltiv Velinovi, who was subject to a vote of confidence, was the shortest in Salovian history at 328 days, a result of being elected out of office shortly after ascending to the Chancellery following the expulsion of his predecessor during his own vote of confidence. Rorik Posol served the longest at nearly 32 years before passing away in office on 18 September, 1942. Rorik Posol served the most consecutive terms at a total of six. Of the individuals who served as Chancellor, two died in office of natural causes, one of disease, and two were assassinated. Upon their deaths, the Grand Minister at the time would serve as acting Chancellor until a special election was held within 30 days after the Chancellor's death. In all cases but Lara Tarasovna, the acting Chancellor was subsequently elected as Chancellor during these special elections. The importance of political parties in the chancellery was typically less so when compared to other elected positions, namely the Grand Ministry, who was elected by the Zedakhli during any votes of confidence. Mikhail Karanovi is the only de jure Chancellor to not have joined any political party, opting to remain independent. Rorik Posol is the only Chancellor to be elected that was not from the three major parties.
