The law of the Volkian Federative Republic comprises of several levels of codified and uncodified forms of law, of which applies to Volkia and is governed by the Volkian Constitution. The Constitution provides the foundation of the Volkian federal government and guarantees various civil liberties to Volkian citizens. The Constitution sets out the boundaries of federal law which include: Acts of the National Assembly, treaties ratified by the Federal Council, regulations promulgated by the executive branch, and case law originating from the federal judiciary. Federal statutory law is compiled and codified in the Volkian Federal Code (Volkian: Федеральный кодекс Волкскийская Федеративная Республика).

Federal laws and treaties supersede conflicting provincial and territorial laws in Volkia's 2527 provinces andadministrative territorydivisions. Volkia has a dual sovereign system, in which the federal sovereign has some limitations in what it can do. Any rights not afforded to the federal sovereign by the Constitution are automatically afforded to the plenary sovereigns, which are the nation's provinces (oblasts). ProvincesEach province has its own constitution and are semiautonomous; andthey haveare afforded certain rights and obligations as set out in the federal Constitution, though it is clearly stated in Article 4 of the Constitution that federal law is supreme to provincial law. Provinces are permitted to pass greater rights to their citizens so long as they do not infringe on any federal constitutional rights. Much of Volkian law that is experienced by citizens on a day-to-day basis is made up of provincial law, which can vary from one province to another. Since the 1980s the federal government has passed laws involving issues that were previously left to the provinces to legislate (i.e. gun laws, abortion rights, and cannabis legalization) in an attempt to standardize Volkian law.

At both the federal and provincial levels, the law of Volkia is derived from the system of common law that was in force at the time of the Volkian Civil War. In turn, this legal system is derived from an early system that was in place prior to the establishment of the Kingdom of Volkia. Today, Volkian law has diverged greatly from its ancestor in terms of both procedure and substance, and has adopted a number of aspects of Civil law (legal system). Most of Volkia's laws are now codified.
