Since the Treaty of Astravili in 2005 ended the Salovian Civil War, Kostromastan was established as a temporary solution to the diverse factions that inhabited central Salovia. A growing political and cultural divide within the group of nations would slowly reach a tipping point of indecision, when the 2018 Summit was held to discuss the future of the confederation. Although no solution was reached during the summit, the consensus was that the status quo of a confederation would no longer suffice, and as such the nation was given "failed state" status, with the political factions dividing amongst themselves.
