Most of Kostromastan is engulfed in a desert. The westernmost and southernmost parts of the country, however, are of temperate climate, which is where most of the wildlife lives. The Kostrom Government issued all temperate climate as protected wildlife areas, which is why all the cities in Kostromastan are located on the very edge of the desert, near to the temperate areas of Kostromastan.

The only city that is not along the Salov is Tula, which is an experimental city to see if water can be captured from air, specifically desert air.
