After graduating he started is career in the banking sector. He worked as an asset manager for the private [[Bank of São João]]. He was appointed Administrative Director of the [[Bank of the Andorinhões]] from 2007 to 2013. After resigning from his position in the Bank of the Andorinhões he was invited to taught at the [[State University of the Andorinhões]].

At the start of the [[2019 Andorinhean legislative election]], many considered Rodrigues to be a front runner to be nominated as a Presidential choice. After rumours of initial talks with the [[Democratic Alternative (Andorinhões)|Democratic Alternative]] party, it was announced on 29 July that he would be the choice of the We Andorinheans Party. Rodrigues assumed the leadership of the party for the 2019 campaign alongside [[Alícia da Palma]], who was then the parliamentary leader of the party in the [[National Assembly of the Andorinhões|National Assembly]]. Rodrigues brought some legitimacy to the We Andorinheans Party and placed the party as a strong contender to become the governing political party in the Andorinhões. Many experts believe that his announcement to run with the We Andorinheans Party boosted the momentum the party had gained with its victory in the [[2018 Andorinhean legislative by-election|by-election of 2018]] and allowed them to form the government.
