In the 1960s, Marine World began experimenting with full-length live-action films, with the introduction of hybrid live action-animated films such as ''Burning HIlls'' (1961) and ''Nacata Butterfly'' (1963). That same decade, the studio began producing nature documentaries with the release of ''Orca Adventure'' (1968), the first of the ''Urth-Adventure'' series .
JV Studios had its first fully live-action film in 1970 with the release of ''Pirate Island'' considered by Marine World to be the official conception for what would eventually evolve into the modern-day JV Studios. By 1971, the company ended their agreements with third-party distributors and formed their own distribution company, Cintras Distribution Associations .
