The waters around Christie Island were once infamous internationally for piracy. Eventually, after the thread of military intervention from outside powers, the government of Christie Island took stronger efforts to combat piracy and regulate their territorial waters. They were so effective that Christie Island would later become known as a global example of efficiently functioning, transparent government.
Christie Island is historically neutral. It has never participated in any global war or conflict, and it has never joined any kind of political, economic, or military alliance. Indeed, Christie Island is not even a member of the International Forum, despite being the location of its headquarters. It very rarely participates in international diplomacy at all, and maintains very few formal embassies in foreign countries, though it has historically participated in the negotiation and adoption of international standards such as time zones, electrical outlet design, and the law of the sea.
