In the subsequent centuries, Charlottesborg retained strong cultural connections across the sea. It is home to one of the few branches of the Cryrian Church outside of the Isles. Similarly, the ruling nobility continues to have family ties to the Cryrian aristocracy and the House of Leidensen, and by law Cryrian is preserved as the official language of government, education, and business even as Volscine becomes more widely spoken on a day-to-day basis. Though the ethnically Cryrian population has been historically insular towards the rest of the confederation, it has grown increasingly Volscinized over time, particularly with the development of industry along its rivers and coasts. This has given rise to a unique mixture of Volscine and Cryrian culture which has at times been compared to similar confluences in the Cryrian city of Valngi.

Charlottesborg, formally known as the Duchy of Charlottesborg, is a constituent state within Volscine Empire ruled by the Reitz family. The coastal territory is famous for its rich soil and spectacular beaches. Though home to diverse technology and industrial sectors, the Duchy's economy is best known for the city of Charlottesborg and its important shipbuilding industry. The region is populated by the descendants of Cryrian missionaries and settlers, and retains its strong Ademarist roots.

History

Northern Volscina was subjected to infrequent contacts by Cryrian vessels for much of its early history. These visits intensified with the Cryrian migration to Novaris. Seafaring Ademarist missionaries began to frequent the area with the purpose of converting the region, and the presence of navigable rivers and good soil made it attractive for settlers, especially as the Cryrian Isles themselves began to offer little more in the way of claimable land for would-be aristocrats. For a time, portions of the Volscine coast were home to a distant and largely disconnected Cryrian outpost, though it would receive a sizable boost during the 16th-century after the Sorrows, when the victors of the Cryrian civil war exiled many former rebels across the sea.

Modern Charlottesborg
