Main article: Thomarian Troubles

Sectarian divisions and violence within Thomaria had been occurring since their defeat in the Thomarian Revolutionary War, but tensions flared in the 1950s when on 21 October 1952, the newly-organised Thomarian Independence Front (TIF) deployed a paramilitary group (TIFA) into the state of Lacarino, attacking the town of Kildari in an attempt to occupy the area. The attempt was unsuccessful, and within seconds the Cappedorite Armed Forces were able to repel the aggressors within an hour. Conservative president Gabe Cohen Mellor went on to condemn the attacks, and about a month later, on 26 November 1952, TIFA attempted to assassinate the president during a hotel stay in Absolution, which was unsuccessful and instead killed the president's top aide, and injured multiple others.

The Cappedorite Armed Forces (CAF) and the Thomarian Independence Front Army (TIFA) had a series of catastrophic clashes from 1952 to 1985. It was Mary Jane Revie's pledge of the Great Reform Act that eventually cooled tensions, albeit not by much. By the time Anthony Owston entered office as president, and the Great Reform Act was put into place in 1990, tensions cooled and ever since have been at a lesser level than what they were in the 60s and 70s.

1989 - 1999 Great Reform Era
Succeeding Mary Jane Revie in 1989, Anthony Owston of the CCU was elected as President. In his election campaign alongside Stevie Turnbull, Owston promised a 'Change To Conserve' campaign and promised to work with the CSDP to transform Cappedore's legeslative and electoral processes, mainly by introducing a second lower house of legislature (the present-day Gemotern) and giving the Federal Council a more proportional electoral process. These policies were inspired by Mary Jane Revie's pledges of 'great reform' which she was never able to execute on account of the Thomarian Troubles.

In 1990, Owston worked with Alexander Winfield, Stuart Clarke, and James McBowan of the CSDP alongside multiple members (most notably Paul Kaprekar) of the Federal Council to create the 1990 Cappedorite Constitutional Amendment, also known as the 1990 Great Reform Act. This act would introduce the likes of the Gemotern, a system of STV introduced for electing members of the Federal Council, and a new branch of the Cappedorite government that would be linked to the Gemotern; the Cabinet, led by the Chancellor.

Religion
Most recently, the 2022 census recorded Thaerism falling behind irreligion. Mainly, Cappedorites have prided themselves on being majorly secular, favouring progressive doctrines over religious traditions and traditional values. Progressivism in Cappedore is mainly considered as one of the nation's many beloved values.

The Executive branch of the Cappedorite government is split into two groups: the Administrative Council, and the Cabinet. The Administrative Council is considered to be the more significant segment of the executive branch, however a lot of the background work is implemented by the Cabinet in conjunction with the Cappedorite Civil Service. The Administrative Council is headed by the Vice President, whereas the Cabinet is headed by the Chancellor of Cappedore. The roles of both is to implement laws passed by the United Assembly.
