Cappedore, also known as the United Republic of Cappedore or the URC, was an island nation located in Southeastern Yasteria, having shared an ocean border with the Free Pax States and Peregrinia, and was bordered in the east by the Pacific Ocean. Cappedore had a population of over 70 million within 32 constituent states, the most populous of these being Kevonia. Cappedore's capital city was Absolution, in Ivyland.
Various native Cappedorite tribes inhabited the lands around the Driftwood Harbour since antiquity, and tribal kingdoms sprung up in the southwestern region of Cappedore during the middle ages before the accidental arrival of Staynish settlers in 1609. Before its establishment as a republic, Cappedore existed as a tributary Archduchy state to the Morstaybishlian Empire, with 5 of its 30 present day states existing as sub-duchies within Cappedore. The nation would eventually gain its independence from the Staynish in 1730, but for nearly a century failed to expand into the new lands, as native forces in the area were far too strong in numbers for the underdeveloped Archduchy of Cappedorite States to handle. It wasn't until 1812 when a revolution sprung up in Cappedore and with the help of other states managed to expand, leading to the creation of brand new states.

Sectarian divisions and violence within Thomaria had been occurring since their defeat in the Thomarian Revolutionary War, but tensions flared in the 1950s when on 21 October 1952, the newly-organised Thomarian Independence Front (TIF) deployed a paramilitary group (TIFA) into the state of Lacarino, attacking the town of Kildari in an attempt to occupy the area. The attempt was unsuccessful, and within seconds the Cappedorite Armed Forces were able to repel the aggressors within an hour. Conservative president Gabe Cohen Mellor went on to condemn the attacks, and about a month later, on 26 November 1952, TIFA attempted to assassinate the president during a hotel stay in Absolution, which was unsuccessful and instead killed the president's top aide, and injured multiple others.
The Cappedorite Armed Forces (CAF) and the Thomarian Independence Front Army (TIFA) had a series of catastrophic clashes from 1952 to 1985. It was Mary Jane Revie's pledge of the Great Reform Act that eventually cooled tensions, albeit not by much. By the time Anthony Owston entered office as president, and the Great Reform Act was put into place in 1990, tensions cooled and ever since have been at a lesser level than what they were in the 60s and 70s.
1989 - 1999 Great Reform Era
Succeeding Mary Jane Revie in 1989, Anthony Owston of the CCU was elected as President. In his election campaign alongside Stevie Turnbull, Owston promised a 'Change To Conserve' campaign and promised to work with the CSDP to transform Cappedore's legeslative and electoral processes, mainly by introducing a second lower house of legislature (the present-day Gemotern) and giving the Federal Council a more proportional electoral process. These policies were inspired by Mary Jane Revie's pledges of 'great reform' which she was never able to execute on account of the Thomarian Troubles.
In 1990, Owston worked with Alexander Winfield, Stuart Clarke, and James McBowan of the CSDP alongside multiple members (most notably Paul Kaprekar) of the Federal Council to create the 1990 Cappedorite Constitutional Amendment, also known as the 1990 Great Reform Act. This act would introduce the likes of the Gemotern, a system of STV introduced for electing members of the Federal Council, and a new branch of the Cappedorite government that would be linked to the Gemotern; the Cabinet, led by the Chancellor.
On 7 January 1991, the bill passed unanimously in the Federal Council, and a general election was announced for 16 June 1991.
1995 - 1997 Fort Clement War
Main article: Fort Clement War
On 16 February 1995, the united air forces of the United Federation of the Isles (UFI) issued a bombing run on the south-facing port of the Cappedorite city of Arundel. The attack resulted in the deaths of 172 people, with a further 1,873 injured. The attack resulted in a declaration of war against the island federation by the United Republic of Cappedore on 17 February 1995, an action that was seen as a "release of tensions at last" with tensions brewing between Cappedore and the United Isles since the 70s.
In 1997, Cappedore signed the Bluckingham Treaty with Phoenixia, which saw the Phoenixian government investing five billion dollars in aid to rebuild the Attlee capital Fort Clement in the newly conquered Federated Outlying Isles. Over time, the treaty was amended to eliminate tariffs and promote bilateral trade between the two nations.
1999 - 2007 Ramsay Era
Modern Cappedorite History
On May 5th, 2010, the day after the 2010 Cappedore general election, incumbent Chancellor Keir Crosland visited then Liberal leader Vikki Slade to discuss a potential coalition between the CSDP and the CLU in the Gemotern, after the CSDP fell 13 seats short of a required majority.
In 2016, Slade would resign as Liberal Union leader, First Deputy Chancellor, and subsequently from the Gemotern as a whole to focus on a potential presidential campaign in 2019. She would be replaced by Thomas Coleman.
In 2018, Maya Murray would praise the existence of the coalition, stating it as a "beacon of liberty and unity in a nation stronger together because of it."

The President
Main article: President of Cappedore
The President is the head of state of the United Republic of Cappedore. He/she overlooks general administration of the executive, including the role of appointing the Chancellor, and approving the Grand Speaker of the United Assembly. The President has the authority to implement executive orders, veto laws (with approval from the Administrative Council), and pardon certain individuals from punishment. The President is considered to be the most important figure in keeping the United Republic together, as well as ensuring the nation remains stable and intact for future generations. Since 2014, the presidential position has been held by Austin Merrill.
Executive
See also: Chancellor of Cappedore
The Executive branch of the Cappedorite government is split into two groups: the Administrative Council, and the Cabinet. The Administrative Council is considered to be the more significant segment of the executive branch, however a lot of the background work is implemented by the Cabinet in conjunction with the Cappedorite Civil Service. The Administrative Council is headed by the Vice President, whereas the Cabinet is headed by the Chancellor of Cappedore. The roles of both is to implement laws passed by the United Assembly.
