Qualifying started at 19:00 local time on 26 March, and lasted for one hour and fifteen minutes. During the second flying lap of the second qualifying session, Metropol's Mikal Christoffersen, fresh from his one-week suspension, spun out at the Nouvelle Chicane, impacting the barriers and coming to a rest at the exit of turn 11. Pedro Wilson, running close behind, was unable to avoid the stranded car and made contact. Both cars suffered terminal damage and the session was red flagged. Although Wilson's first time was still good enough to qualify into the third round, his car could not be repaired in time to compete in it. This incident marked the second session-ending crash of the season; both have involved Mikal Christoffersen and a [[MBE|Morstaybishlian]] driver.
