On the 13th December 2021, a multi-state UCA/Côtois-led coalition began a large scale military intervention into Helslandr in response of the NRRH terrorist attack at the Pledonian border town of Litengrunn and the NRRH’s sapient crimes violations against the native kemonomimi and tiefling population in Helslandr. In which the then Norgsveltian prime minister, Johanna Sverdrup, announced that the UCA would cooperate with the Federation to get rid of Hirdist threat within Helslandr and ensure the provincial government’s victory. Jeanne Pierre announced the intervention to the public, primarily targeting her rhetoric towards nationalists and the Hirdist threat. A notable difference from her previous statements and actions on the situation, as previously she considered the republicans and the nationalists to be on different sides on the same coin. With a joint UCA-Côtois air force establishing a no-fly-zone. While the Norgsveltian, Eyjarian and Côtois navies imposed a naval blockade against the NRRH controlled port city of Varghallen, with the Norgsveltian and Côtois naval ships firing over 100 missiles at the city destroying vital military infrastructure. With a joint air campaign involving the air forces of Norgsveldet, Federation, Eyjaria, Pledonia and Nakosa having provided large success in stopping the NRRH’s counter offensives against the provincial government’s forces at the end of December.

The NRRH’s response to the air and naval campaigns was ineffective with them having lost most of their fighters and ships in previous bombings from the Côtois Air Force prior to the intervention. With the NRRH’s surface-to-air missile batteries being completely destroyed within only a week into the intervention, without a single coalition plane being shut down. There was an attempted bombing of a Eyjarian Krigs Class frigate through the usage of civilian ships that was strapped with explosives, but with the explosives failing to detonate when ramming into the naval ship.

The official names for the naval and air campaign being Operation Hammergalen by the UCA, and Operation Souris by the Federation. The intervention was supported by all members of the UCA with the alliance holding an emergency meeting on the 11th December 2021, in which 12 members voted in favor of intervention with Durakia abstaining.

On 15th of January, Operation Taureaux was underway, sending estimated 200k military personnel across the Helslandr southern border in a rapid assault. Pushing through rapidly and creating a series of isolated pockets of Nationalist forces. The operation was seen as a success, resulting in 463 casualties within the first week. Primary due to the rapidness of the advance as it encircled nationalist forces, the intense bombing campaigns from Operation Souris and the heavy use of misdirection on social media about the speed and direction of the advance. One of the key factors in the operation was the use of information gathered by the Socialists resistance fighters within the southern regions of the country, and it was given top priority to provide relief to the socialists within the region.

On the 20th January, Operation Sverdkrig was enacted with an estimated 132k military personnel from across the UCA working in tandem with the Provincial Government with a combined force of over 310k military personnel attacking the Nationalists from the North. Together with the Côtois forces from the South ensured that the NRRH’s forces in Varghallen were cut off from the rest of its troops in the interior. As such encircling their headquarters. It was estimated that only 765 casualties for the UCA forces while there being over 2k casualties for the Provincial Governments forces during the first week of the ground intervention. The increase in casualties was due to the highly urban environment of the nation’s coast, resulting in street to street fighting in many towns. Despite the higher casualties Operation Sverdkrig and Operation Taureaux were highly successful as the Coalition forces ensured complete dominance in the air and quick control of Helslandr’s Southern Territories. Within two weeks most of the South was under coalition occupation with NRRH’s territorial control being only within the most mountainous parts of the interior and its headquarters in Varghallen.

While disputes in reported numbers of the casualties the Nationalist forces took during the first two weeks of the ground intervention. With over 20k being reported killed or wounded with over 40k being taken as prisoners. In which it was confirmed by the Côtois Army that over 2k mercenaries from Rikevaarland were captured, the Rikevaari government having previously denied that any mercenaries from their country were involved in the Helslandr Civil War. Jeanne Pierre gave a statement in reply to the Rikevaari government, “If no one claims them, then they will rot in a cell until the end of their days. With the exception of the ones who talk to us about where they’re from and who paid for them.” Similar scandal broke out for the Blåskovian government after it was revealed by the UCA commander, Ivar Queile, that over 1k Blåskovian volunteers to the NRRH were captured or injured during Operation Sverdkrig. According to interrogations done by the NCIS majority of the volunteers was previous veterans from the Blåskovian Army, with almost all having connection to the Blåskovian far right party, Alviske Folke Partiet (AFP), also known as the Elven People’s Party. The information led to harsh reaction within Norgsveldet with the Ulvriktru Democrats and the Labour Party calling for the government to take a harsher stance on Blåskog. Johanna Sverdrup announced then on the 25th January that if the Blåskovian government was to get its citizens back it had to pay in reparation costs to Helslandr for the damage caused by the volunteers. Jeanne Pierre commented on PM Sverdrup policy, stating on no certain terms that any Blåskovian prisoners taken by the Federation would be sent back to Blåskog until they have served their sentence. This led to the Blåskovian king, Carl IX, announcing that his government would refuse to accept Sverdrup’s terms and condemned Pierre’s policy, withdrawing its ambassador from the Federation. With there being leaks showing the king arguing with its son, Crown Prince Wilan, over the response. With the Crown Prince having reportedly requested the King to take Sverdrup’s offer. Though the Blåskovian Royal House proclaimed on the 15th March 2022 that both the King and Crown Prince were unified behind the decision.

The largest casualties were inflicted on the Coalition forces during the Battle of Varghallen, in which after several weeks of being besieged army units from Norgsveldet, Federation, Pledonia and Eyjaria stormed the city on the 3rd February 2022. With over 100k Coalition forces facing against a poorly equipped and disorganized Nationalist force of over 160k personnel. Mainly made up of Hirdist militias, the paramilitary Iron Front and few Tieresh volunteers. In which a brutal street to street fighting occurred. The fighting only ended after Norgsveltian Special Forces shot and killed Tirlid Kvirkdelen and his bodyguards during a skirmish in Varghallen’s bunker network. With the NRRH’s second-in-command, Peline Sorttelle, being captured by Côtois Marines in the same bunker network. Causing the fighting to end in the city on the 21st February 2022. While estimated figures over casualties is disputed the Coalition Forces reported that over 5k Coalition personnel was either killed or wounded during the battle, as result of NRRH’s fanaticism and suicidal tendencies. Most Coalition casualties were from the Federation and Norgsveldet. The same fanaticism and suicidal tendencies is also cause of why Nationalist causalties was so high, with estimated 50k killed or injured, with over 110k being captured. According to witness accounts by Pledonian Soldiers many of the NRRH’s soldiers refused to stop fighting after getting captured.
