The Supreme Magister of Paxism (Packilvanian: muMakhees muMakhnifiya) is the highest ranking clerical official in the Magisterium of Paxism. Thus, he is the head of Paxism. The office of the Supreme Magister is established by the Writings of Paxism specifically the Bingolian additions to the Vagumar (collectively known as the Bas Magdamar) as determined by High King Melkezedek the Great. His role is to provide spiritual guidance for the international fellowship of Paxists, to represent the Magisterium of Paxism and the Paxist religion globally, to preside over and convene meetings of the Council of Great Magisters. He fulfills much of this by issuing Bulls (leBuleem) which as binding interpretations of scripture.
The Supreme Magister is elected by the Council of Great Magisters. For a period, he was appointed or approved by the Sultan of Packilvania but when Zerah Demir IV married King Thadeus I of Great Morstaybishlia, the Parliament of Packilvania passed a law that stripped the Sultan of the power to appoint or approve the Supreme Magister. Furthermore, when the Packilvanian Communist Party under Gideon Muktan took over Packilvania, they did not seek to appoint Supreme Magisters, permanently separating the head of state from that role. As such, even when the Carriers of Mercy restored a Paxist theocratic semi-absolute monarchy under the Bedonite dynasty (according to the Law of Packilvania), the Sultan was not granted the power to appoint the Supreme Magister. Nevertheless, the Supreme Magister has a role in the government of Packilvania in that he is a member of the Council of State and of the Parliament. The incumbent Supreme Magister is Tawak Mudawaheen who is technically Tawak IV.
