The Consort of Packilvania (Packilvanian: muZawiji aBakhilfaniya) refers to the senior-most spouse of the reigning monarch of Packilvania. Over the span of Packilvanian history, only four men have ever been Consorts and all of whom were married to the Sultana Regants who ruled during the reign of the Demirite dynasty. Thus, the overwhelming majority have been women. Among the former heads of state of Packilvania, some of the wives of the High Kings and Sultans acted as High Queens and Sultana's Regent usually during the reign of a minor. The reigning Sultana Consort of Packilvania is Saga Bedon (née Tynam) who married Sultan of Packilvania, Thumim V.

Duties and function

The Sultana Consort is the head of the Imperial Court of Packilvania, the body responsible for the support of the functions of the monarchy and imperial Family. Thus, she oversees the running of the palaces and castles in Packilvania which are designated as official residences. She oversees the organisation and execution of important events such as the Coronation and the weddings of Princes. She has the power to set rules of conduct in areas designated as part of the inner court and to judge and dispense punishment for the infractions of those rules. She maintains relations between the Imperial Court and the Council of Ministers of Packilvania through regular engagements and cooperation with the Junior Minister for Imperial Affairs.

One of her most impactful roles is as a statutory member of the Council of State. Thus she has the power to discuss and vote on the removal of a Sultan, the approval of the line of succession, the adoption of rules of succession and the resolution of disputes relating to succession. The Sultana Consort has other duties and functions which arise from tradition. This includes hosting foreign dignitaries who visit the country, attending ceremonial events and overseeing and administering philanthropic efforts on behalf of the monarchy and imperial family through supporting charitable initiatives and patronage of charitable organisations. She is often regarded as exercising soft power on behalf of the Sultan.

Title and style

Thadeus I was the only sovereign of a foreign nation to be a Consort of Packilvania

Since the rule of the Bedonite dynasty started with Sultan Amhoud I, the female Consort officially holds the following title:

  • By the Divine Providence of Noi, Her Imperial and Royal Majesty, the Sultana Consort of Packilvania and Queen Consort of Drakkengard. (yeluRahman luHivaliyah aNoi, muMakhnifiya muShahitishme nadine muMamlukimishme, muShultana muZawiji aBakhilfaniya nadine muMamlukumlea muZawiji aDrakhengard)

The Demirite dynasty used the same title but it excluded references to the monarchical titles of the Kingdom of Drakkengard. During the reign of the High Kings (that being during the reign of the Iktanite dynasty and Zubraynite dynasty), the female consorts were known as:

  • By the Divine Providence of Noi, Her Imperial Majesty, the High Queen Consort of Packilvania (yeluRahman luHivaliyah aNoi, muMakhnifiya muMamlukimishme, muMamluklea muWaloof aBakhilfaniya)

The male consorts varied in the titles that they were bestowed. The last female ruler of the Demirite dynasty, Zerah Demir IV married King of Great Morstaybishlia, Thadeus I. During her reign, there was significant contention in the Parliament of Packilvania and the Magisterium of Paxism about the title he should use given that he was an adherent of Thaerism while the official religion of Packilvania was Paxism. As part of her marriage, Zerah Demir IV converted to Thaerism and ceded the title of Supreme Governor of Paxism for the title of Custodian of the Three Sacred Temples. A compromise was reached whereby her Consort, then King of Great Morstaybishlia, Thadeus I, used the following title and his titles with respect to Great Morstaybishlia were not used in Packilvania:

  • By the Divine Providence of Noi, His Imperial Majesty, Sultan Consort of Packilvania (yeluRahman luHivaliyah aNoi, muMakhnifiya muShahitishme, muShultan muZawiji aBakhilfaniya)

In contrast, the three previous male consorts used the following title:

  • By the Divine Providence of Noi, His Imperial Highness, Prince of Packilvania (yeluRahman luHivaliyah aNoi, muWaloof muShahitishme, muMamlukmne aBakhilfaniya)

It must be noted that all male consorts except for Thadeus I who was a member of the Morstaybishlian branch of the Asendavian House of Harstad (which he changed to Louzar) were already members of the Demirite dynasty, and thus they used the same titles as those which they used prior to marriage. However, they were all bestowed a peerage within the nobility of Packilvania.
