Greater Oan Civilisation (Oan: Te Rohenui o te Oa) is a geographic and cultural term for people and islands of the Southwest Cerenerian Ocean, Morstaybishlian Sea and Caven Sea. According to cultural experts and historians the Greater Oan Civilization consists of The Oan Isles, Kohatu Isles, Morstaybishlian Cerenerian Territories, Lapimuhyo, Avutilli and Jusdelva. Sometimes East Gemica, a territory of Peregrinia is included for geographic purposes.

Name

The term Greater Oan Civilisation. There are conflicting explanations of the origin of this term. No explanation has gained consensus. Some experts believe that it is the name of a deity, other believe it is the name of an ancient King while others believe it is a native plant, possibly an orchid. Others, such as Prof Thomas Rotorua of the University of Tokapa believe that the name may be combination of all these origins.

Politics

The government of the Oan Isles maintains deliberate ambiguity around the extent of this term, so as not to upset the government of Great Morstaybishlia by implying territorial claims over its territories while also balancing the identity and history of Oan proliferation in the Cerenerian and Morstaybishlian Seas. Greater Oan Civilisation originated in the Oan Isles and spread over thousands of years to adjacent islands, reaching as far as Jusdelva. Jusdelvawas never annexed or ruled by the Oan Isles however people of Oan ethnic origin settled there independently.

The Pan Greater Oan Civilisation movement is an irredentist ideology in Oan politics that calls for the unification of all Greater Oan Civilisationn peoples. Some Chiefs from the Morstaybishlian Cerenerian Territories are recognized under the Peerage of the Oan Isles and are allowed to serve in the Council of Chiefs.

The moribund Greater Oan Union acted as a forum for cooperation among Greater Oan Civilisation nations, but only the Oan Isles and Kohatu Isles ever joined because membership required recognizing the political authority of the Crown of Greater Oan Civilisation. The only organ of that body that continues to operate is the Serene Council which is responsible for matters of succession of the Crown of Greater Oan Civilisation. In effect it consists almost entirely of Oan politicians and nobles.

Religion

Some religious zealots also argue that Mauism explicitly calls for the people of Greater Oan Civilisation to unite under the political and religious authority of the Emperor of Greater Oan Civilisation as the spiritual successor to Ahua the Great. Liberal Mauist do not think that Greater Oan Civilisation exists at all, but is instead a vacuous conceptual term that encompasses followers of Mauism. The overwhelming majority of Mauists are moderates who believe that Maui intended the Emperor to be a symbol of the Greater Oan Civilisationn people not their ruler.

Ethnicity

The ethnic groups recognizes as falling within the Greater Oan Civilisation family are Justic, Oan, Lap'i'oan and Kohatuan people. The term only refers to humans. Thus only the human minorities of Lapimuhyo are referred to as Greater Oan Civilisation and not the Lutrynes who make up 87% of that country's population. They are characteristed by light brown skin, thin lips, wide nose bridge and kinky hair. Mitochondrial DNA studies suggest that they share a common ancestor who originated over 20,000 years ago. They intermixed with Morsts, Caven, Codexian, Kaltariz and other nearby human tribes such as Salovian and Ethalns. Justic people have the greatest proportion of Kaltariz and Staynish DNA and Kohatuan people have the highest proportion of Caven and Codexian DNA. Oans have the least intermixed DNA. Avutilian people have a relatively high proportion of Salovian DNA.

Population

Greater Oan Civilisation has a population of approximately 40 million people of whom 18 million are in the Greater Oan Isles, and 6,4 million are in Lapimuhyo. Some demographers bring this number down to about 30 million as the ancestry of people of Jusdelva brings complications as many have mixed or highly dilute ancestry. Others expand the number to about 60 million people by including all people with some Greater Oan Civilisationn DNA no matter how small.

Language

The Greater Oan Civilisation languages form part of the same language family. This includes Oan which is spoken in the Oan Isles, Kohatu Isles and MWPT and Jūs which is spoken on Jusdelva. The languages shares a lot of vocabulary with Auroran languages especially Staynish and to a lesser extent Ethalrian. Furthermore, all Greater Oan Civilisationn languages are written in Staynish script. However, it is unclear where the languages originated and whether they form part of the larger Pax-Auroran language family which includes languages like Packilvanian, Staynish, Kaltareg, Salovian and Axdelian.

Economy

All Greater Oan Civilisation nations are part of the United Nations of the Auroran Continent. As such they share the same customs area and trade policy is coordinates at continental level. This guarantees their ability to move and work freely. Thus their économies are highly integrated. Furthermore, they share the Kirib as their currency and the Auroran Central Bank is in charge of their monetary policy. The 4 year Infrastructure Development Project, between the Oan Isles ans Great Morstaybishlia is the largest investment and infrastructure deal in the area and plans to integrate them further.
