Gabriel Demuiré (June 3, 1961-August 19, 1985) was an Antoran soldier. He served as part of the 10th Armored Legion as a tank crewman and officer, taking command of the First Armored Cavalry Squadron in 1985 with the rank of Captain. He was notable for developing the Demuiré Plan, a strategy of armored warfare that used misdirection and the psychology of opponents, which is in use by the Royal Antoran Armed Legions. Demuiré was killed in battle during the 1985 Corric Succession Crisis against Loyalist forces. Due to his good reputation, lack of public interactions, and a striking similarity to former Crown Prince Astolfo de Naranza-Carratéo, Demuiré's identity was assumed by the Prince in order to fake his own death. This facilitated the long-term acquisition of support and resources by the Prince, allowing him to ultimately reveal the corruption and conspiracies that caused the Succession Crisis. In 2022, as recognition for his sacrifice in the line of duty and the use of his identity, Demuiré's promotion to Major was officially reclassified as a postumous promotion to Lieutenant-Colonel.

Early Life, Education, and Military Service

Public records are limited on Demuiré's life, particularly due to obfuscation and censorship after his death. Census records indicate he was born in the city of Descarai, Cartevedra, Antora to Edgar and Julieta Demuiré. He was an only child, and his parents died before he was ten. He began living with his aunt and grandmother in the Descarai suburb of La Vontra around 1970. Police records show the adolescant Demuiré was a semi-regular offender of grafitti, vandalism, and petty theft, while also indicating he displayed aptitude for problem solving and was generally an intelligent and good natured, if misguided, youth. A noted interest in medieval history and Antoran culture took root in this time, with records suggesting Demuiré was a member of the Amateur Historians Association and the La Vontra Reenactment Troupe late in high school.

Demuiré enrolled in the Descarai Combat Academy in 1979, at age 17, automatically becoming a member of the Royal Antoran Defense Forces. As a student at the Combat Academy, he took all requisite basic training courses for the FDCR and advanced classes regarding armored warfare, logistics, strategy, and personnel management. General education classes also qualified him for a B.A. in economics. In 1981 Demuiré graduated fifth in his class as a Junior Lieutenant. He was assigned to the First Armored Cavalry Squadron, of the 4th Royal Armored Cavalry Regiment, 10th Armored Legion and served for two years as a gunner, then being promoted to First Lieutenant.

Demuiré saved his commander's life during an unspecified accident during a 10th Legion wargame, the details of which have been classified or otherwise lost. He also pioneered an armored warfare tactic that is currently in use by Antoran tank doctrine. These two achievements saw Demuiré promoted to Captain in 1985, placed in charge of the First A.C. Squadron. At some point in this period, he married and had one son.

His unit would be trained using his own unique brand of tactics, which unfortunately did not help during the 1985 Corric Succession Crisis. The 4th Royal Armored Cavalry Regiment was deployed to capture Fort Vincezno Airbase, which was being held by the air forces declared treasonous in support of Prince Astolfo. The First A.C. was subject to several strafing runs and bombings by the rebellious forces, killing Demuiré and all others in the unit.

Post-death

After the Battle of Porto Francisco, Prince Astolfo was secreted to the mainland by members of his household and intelligence network to recover from his injuries. While the Prince recuperated, the narrative was pushed by both his network and the Crown's that he had perished at Porto Francisco. The contingency plan the Prince designed for an underground opposition to his father, King Benito Ares, was initiated. Calling for the Prince to assume a false identity if he was alive, the contingency eventually chose Demuiré as the basis for the new persona. His ideals were moderate enough that either side of the political spectrum would find him non-threatening, his service record indicated an intelligent soldier loyal to the Crown and injured in combat against percieved traitors, and his facial features and coloration closely matched that of the Prince. Over a period of five months, the Prince assumed the identity of Demuiré through study, acting, and a series of minor cosmetic surgeries. The limp he acquired from Porto Francisco was easily attributed to Fort Vincezno instead.

The Prince entered the Armed Legions upon his recovery and assumed all the duties and lifestyle habits of the deceased Demuiré. He would maintain this cover for a further three decades, transitioning from military life to civilian in 1987 to further facilitate the acquisition of resources and a stronger pull with powerful individuals inside and outside of the government. Demuiré's relatives were distressed at "his" change in personality, but complicit Armed Legion doctors and psychologists attributed it to PTSD and a changed outlook on life after coming so close to death. His grandmother and aunt never raised any serious concerns and died in 2003 and 2005 with no knowledge of Demuiré's fate. Likewise, Demuiré's wife divorced "him" in 1989 due to the differences.

In 2022, after the culmination of the Red Eagle Project, the arrests and executions of treasonous members of Antoran government and society, and a reform of the government and monarchy, Astolfo was granted the titles of Prince-Emeritus and Royal Adjutant by his brother, King Sebastián II. His first act in this position was to acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices Demuiré unknowingly provided his country and the role he had in allowing the Prince-Emeritus to expose the anti-democratic and terrorist factions within Antora. The Prince-Emeritus requested the King to posthumously promote Demuiré, declaring "though it [was] a small comfort, it [was] the least [he] could do for a man who gave our nation so much, whose name allowed [him] to work unseen for the better future of all Antoran peoples." After the request was granted, a gravestone in the Royal Military Heroes Cemetary was also commissioned with Demuiré's new rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
