Ewenshire
Ewenshire (/juːnˈʃɜːr/ (YOON-sher) or /juːnˈʃɑːjɜːr/ (YOON-shy-er)) is a constitutional monarchy located in the middle of Arcturia. The country is politically and culturally comprised of 10 shires. The country’s upper house is the Convention, which is comprised of 5 delegates, called a "guild," from each shire. The lower house is the Chamber of Commons, which is comprised of one representative for each of the 300 electoral districts. Ewenshire’s largest and most economically important city is Coeloch. Ewenshire is bordered only by Alksearia to its northwest, with the Highland Steeps forming most of its northwestern border.

Settlement of the Eweic peoples into the cradle of the Highland Steeps began roughly 20,000 years ago. Various Eweic tribes fought over control of what is now called the midlands because of the abundance of rivers and fertile farming ground in the region. The petty kingdoms of the Ewe Region first began interacting with outside nations during the classical age, in which the first recorded contacts of the Ewe and the Alkari began to take place.
Formal unification of Ewenshire into the modern nation-state began on 1818 during Ackony's conquest of the Eweic Kingdoms, forming the Eweic Empire. Between 1818 and just before the start of the Great War, both legislative houses in Ewenshire worked to try and gradually lessen the powers of the Emperor, a title which became increasingly unpopular. The Empire briefly fought on the imperial’s side of the Great War until 1908, when then-emperor Will of Gough was assassinated and the Convention elected to leave the conflict. In 1915, the Upper and Lower houses of Ewenshire drafted and passed a constitution which removed almost all of the power previously associated with the emperor’s title and changed the name of the title to king or queen to fit in with other monarchies.
Etymology
Ewenshire comes from the old Eweic word Ewe, literally meaning "hill," although in context the word is used to refer to the "people of the hills." The other half of the word, Shire, also comes from old Eweic and is a postfix that refers to any land or place in which people live.
