Christie Island is a country located on an island in the Halcyon Sea. Due to its place as the site of several historically significant international negotiations, it has garnered a reputation as the hub of international diplomacy on Urth. The Prime Meridian was drawn to pass through Christie Island, and as such time zones are counted in hours ahead of or behind what is called "Universal Time at Christie," or UTC.
Notable international meetings held at Christie Island include the one that established the Common Era calendar in 1701 and the 2017 negotiations that coordinated the response to the Space Debris Crisis.
History
The waters around Christie Island were once infamous internationally for piracy. Eventually, after the thread of military intervention from outside powers, the government of Christie Island took stronger efforts to combat piracy and regulate their territorial waters. They were so effective that Christie Island would later become known as a global example of efficiently functioning, transparent government.
Christie Island is historically neutral. It has never participated in any global war or conflict, and it has never joined any kind of political, economic, or military alliance. It very rarely participates in international diplomacy at all, and maintains very few formal embassies in foreign countries, though it has historically participated in the negotiation and adoption of international standards such as time zones, electrical outlet design, and the law of the sea.
